![]() ![]() Similar things must have been raised for Kizuna Ai as well. Most people hold onto the top spot for a year or two, so it felt odd that PewDiePie was untouchable for so long. PewDiePie is probably going to be longest reigning ‘King’ of YouTube for a while (of course, depends on if Cocomelon catches T-Series in due time) and at the time his reign was abnormally long. One of the big shared characteristics of the two was the lonely years at the top. Which is why PewDiePie’s Congratulations felt right as a tribute. And Kizuna Ai was famously inspired by PewDiePie at several points in her career. PBS Idea Channel famously emulated Ray William Johnson’s background to his own ends. Vlogbrother’s visual style and mannerism was largely lifted from Ze Frank. Now for the digression, whoever ends up at the top gives us a flavor for that specific era, since one naturally assumes success means finesse and would try to emulate the style. #Ihascupquake surgeon simulator ep 1 seriesBut the point is that AsaCoco harkens to the audience-based tradition.īut beyond Hololive English, there was the famous Meme Review, which has a weak lineage with the early meme review series from PewDiePie. Many of the early web successes were styled in a news format (rocketboom, Ze Frank, What the Buck and so on…) One does not complain about the jump cut between different presenters in a newscast, and so one does not complain when a similar thing happens in vlogs. Unlike movies, which come from theatre and literature, vlogs’ lineage comes from news broadcasts. Of course it is, it’s in a different language. #Ihascupquake surgeon simulator ep 1 movieMovie critic complaining about jump cuts in vlogs is like a Spanish reader complaining about a sentence in English being awkward. A jump cut in a movie denotes a different idea than a jump cut on YouTube. The visual language of YouTube is different from those of movies. AsaCoco is something directly in line with that second tradition. ![]() I talked before about how the major tension in VTube is one between the corporate back-end tradition of Japan colliding with the audience front-end tradition of YouTube. But there is a deeper reason for the brilliance. Having a place to know the ins and outs of various members of Hololive was a great way to connect the rabbit hole. It was already there from the very beginning.ĪsaCoco was brilliant from its outset. So you can see how it baffles me when current fans try to bring up the fact that conflict started after Tommy joined or even because of L’Manburg. Squeegy died because of Sapnap, Sapnap’s horse died as a casualty from George stealing it, or even George burning down Ponk’s original tree and slaughtering all of his pet chickens. Some examples are Ponk killing the original Max the fox because they were getting to his chickens, Dream’s horse Spirit died because of Sapnap (fun fact, Spirit’s leather wasn’t even the original leather because Sapnap was the one who accidentally crafted the real Spirit leather into an item frame), George killed Dream and Sapnap multiple times leading them to kill George because he had too op of items and he killed them a bunch of times, BBH’s pet fish Mr. People killed each other all the time or destroyed each other property or even killed each other’s pets. Travlyn and Zane~Chan from Aphmau’s series, I’ve shipped Peter Pan with Wendy in the original Disney movie and almost every adaptation of Peter Pan while also having a crush on him, Shirbert (Gilbert and Anne Shirley from Anne With An E), and Jerranne (Jerry & Anne from Anne With An E).ĭespite what some current dsmp fans say, the server was not necessarily peaceful at the time. Jess wrote Aarmau as the canon ship in almost every series she has created (besides the series that don’t have the characters Aphmau and Aaron in them) and I got really tired of it and wanted something new so I became a BIG Laurmau shipper. I only ship Aarmau in the Mystreet series bc that’s the only series where it feels right for them to be canon. My favorite ships are Jelsa (Jack Frost from ROTG and Elsa from Frozen) a very nostalgic ship for me that I got obsessed with when I was 10-12 and I’ve never stopped shipping it even though I’m not as obsessed as I used to be, the love square from Miraculous Ladybug, Laurmau from Aphmau’s Minecraft role play series, especially MCD, I used to ship Garmau in addition to shipping Laurmau but I think Garroth’s silliness in Mystreet kinda turned me off from the idea of him and Aphmau together so I just shipped Laurmau. ![]()
